ROMELCO Core Team for its 2016 Reorganization faced the evaluation committee of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) yesterday April 19, 2017 at the latter’s main office in Quezon City. ROMELCO squad headed by GM Rene Fajilagutan defended their reorganizational plan to cope up with the demand of the future being the key player in providing fast and reliable electric service on its coverage area. The strategic plan of the coop being into renewable energy provided a viable transformation to the whole force.
The second phase of the coops presentation will going to resume on May 16, 2017 for the final approval of the said program.

ROMELCO conducted a massive pre-membership orientation seminar in the municipality of Corcuera Romblon last April 5-8 2017. The activity is still a part of the turn over of the operation of electric distributor from its local government unit passing on to the electric cooperative. ROMELCO staff also provided application papers and explained to all the residents of every barangay the process on how to apply for ROMELCO membership.

PAKSA: On March 7, 2017, Representative Carlos Roman Uybarreta presented to the Committee on Energy House Bill No. 3351 or the Anti-Power Line Disturbance Act.
On March 7, 2017, Representative Carlos Roman Uybarreta presented to the Committee on Energy House Bill No. 3351 or the Anti-Power Line Disturbance Act.
During his presentation, Representative Uybarreta explained to the committee that the main cause of toppled electric poles during typhoons are the structures or vegetation/trees that usually falls over the electric lines. Representative Uybarreta backed this up with data coming from the various Electric Cooperatives, NGCP and NEA which shows the cost of damages caused by said structures/vegetation. House Bill No 3351 will prohibit the construction of structures and the planting of vegetation/trees on the right of way corridors of transmission and distribution lines. Furthermore, the bill also prohibits the conduct of hazardous activities along the said right of way corridors.
Representative Uybarreta commended the electric cooperatives and our transmission utility for making sure that electric and transmission poles are built as per the standard set in the Philippine Electric/Grid Code but he stressed the need for this bill to be passed so we can avoid experiencing power interruption caused by the aforementioned problem.
The Committee decided to create a technical working group which is set to meet on March 28, 2017 to harmonize the provisions of the bill with other existing laws.

PAKSA: ROMELCO DOE Signs New Hydro Power Operating Contracts.
The Romblon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ROMELCO) and the Department of Energy (DOE), has signed three (3) Hydro Power Operating Contract (HOC) for the proposed hydropower plants in three (3) river systems in Sibuyan Island. The said Hydro power plants will be located at Silum River, Brgy. Silum, Magdiwang; Agbalit River, Brgy. Danao, Cajidiocan and Lumbang River, Brgy. Lumbang Weste, Cajidiocan all in the island of Sibuyan, Province of Romblon.
The signing took place at the Department of Energy (DOE) Building in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on March 13, 2017. Present during the signing are representatives from ROMELCO, President Dir. Diogenes Hilario M. Magallon and General Manager Engr. Rene M. Fajilagutan. Secretary Alfonso Cusi will represent the Department of Energy in the said contract.
The development of these projects aims to achieve ROMELCO’s objective to attain a 90% of its renewable energy resources. Currently Sibuyan Island is heavily dependent on existing 1,350 KW Cantingas Mini-Hydro Power Plant which supplies about 80% of the annual energy requirements of member-consumers on the said island. The Cantingas Mini-Hydro Power Plant was completed on December 2009 and declared its commercial operation on February 2010.
ROMELCO intends to complete one of the proposed Mini-Hydro Power Plant by 2020, thereafter, the 2nd and 3rd Hydro Power Plants will be completed by year 2023 and 2026 respectively. This mode of development for every three (3) years was programed to meet the ever-increasing power demand of the island and to maintain the maximum contribution of Renewable Energy (RE) in the delivery of electric service of ROMELCO to its member consumers.
The initial capacities of the proposed hydro power plants are 1,500 kW, 892 kW, and 488 kW for Silum, Agbalit, Lumbang Mini-Hydro Power Plants respectively.

GM Rene Fajilagutan of ROMELCO is introducing the new “Distributed Generation” to the all the coop employees. The new gadget is designed as prepaid Kwh Meters that needs to be loaded so it can run an electricity in one household. It is design to be installed at far flung sitios of the coops coverage area and ROMELCO is targeting five communities to the the pilot project of the new program.
